Sid Meier's Ace Patrol Hits iOS

2K and Firaxis games have flown headfirst into the realm of iOS game development, with the duo's newest title, Sid Meier's Ace Patrol, now available to download on iPhones and iPads.

From Sid Meier, the mind behind Civilization, Sid Meier's Ace Patrol is a strategic turn-based aerial combat game that allows players to jump into the shoes of a World War I era fighter pilot, controlling one of 30 vintage and historically inspired WWI aircrafts as they protect the skies over their own base camps and those of their allies. Each plane comes with different stats in terms of speed, maneuverability, diving and climbing abilities, and hit points.

"Our teams at Firaxis Games have jumped at the opportunity to develop mobile titles, myself included," says Sid Meier, director of creative development for Firaxis and lead programmer on Ace Patrol, in a release. "Our passion for great game design is fueled by the opportunity to have such an enormous audience of mobile gamers experience high-quality strategy titles like Ace Patrol, Haunted Hollow and XCOM: Enemy Unknown for iOS."

Across the game's 120 missions, ace pilots will be able to fly across Europe, improving their aircrafts and upgrading their skills while simultaneously creating a team of Aces that each provide their own skills and tweaks to the gameplay. Advanced aerial tricks can also be unlocked over time, like rolls, slips and loops.

Turn-based single player combat is available, but players are also encouraged to take to battle with friends via two-player pass and play on the same device or asynchronous multiplayer through Game Center.

Sid Meier's Ace Patrol is now available to download for free on iOS and iPad. The game offers both tilt and motion-activated camera controls, along with Game Center leaderboards.
