‘Pokemon Go’ Latest News & Update: Niantic Dreams Of Following ‘World Of Warcraft’, But Are They On Track?

“Pokemon Go” has been a rollercoaster ride in just a couple of months, meaning its hit with the gaming community may all depend on their moves. The augmented reality game could have a shot at following the footsteps of Blizzard’s “World of Warcraft” though it could all depend on.

Niantic chief marketing officer Mike Quigley hopes to address the longevity of “Pokemon Go”, something he hopes to follow, Eurogamer reported. Staying power is important but at the same time dependent on what a game has to offer.

While “Pokemon Go” and “World of Warcraft” are technically serving different gaming niches, seeing the former last for quite a while falls at the hands of Niantic and its band of game developers. The company already experienced back in July how the game could drop like a hot potato though new features allowed them to get back to the top.

The key may be on how Niantic is able to appease players. Rolling out new features and special events is a neat trick but the fact is that they need to do that diligently. “Pokemon Go” needs a premium to draw in the players and it cannot solely rely on seasonal offerings.

Worth noting is that according to Quigley, “Pokemon Go” is not all about profit. He says it was never a focus on their end and it seems that low in-game app purchases are unlikely to dictate its future, Ubergizmo reported.

That said, adding new features and game stability could be their best bet. Hunting down those elusive critters in “Pokemon Go” seem so elementary and Niantic may need to expand a bit or provide gamers with more challenges.

Make no mistake about it, there are the Pokemon Gym Battles to look forward to. But somehow, all that has been limited to the “Pokemon Go” players who have reached high XPs. Also, conquering a gym is one thing but what comes after that? Prestige?

Niantic will need to do a lot of things to see “Pokemon Go” last longer than expected. Features and rewards are good but they obviously need to go beyond that.
