David Yates Will Direct All Five 'Fantastic Beasts' Movies

"Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them" opened to a favorable response from critics and fans, so much so that the franchise has now been expanded from three to five movies. The new series is a prequel set in the same wizardry realm as the "Harry Potter" movies are and would encounter characters familiar and new.

David Yates, who directed the movie, as well as four "Harry Potter" movies, took to The Hollywood Reporter to confirm that he has, albeit in no official capacity, committed to four more "Fantastic Beasts" movies. "I love making films, and I've got a great team, all of whom are like family," Yates told THR. J.K. Rowling, who penned the "Harry Potter" books, is also onboard to write four more screenplays.

The first movie follows magizoologist Newt Scamander, played by Eddie Redmayne ("The Danish Girl"), who discovers a magical world parallel to New York City where fantastic beasts dwell. The movie, which comes out November 18th, also stars Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller, Colin Farrell, Ron Perlman, Alison Sudol, Carmen Ejogo and Dan Fogler.

The new series opens up the "Harry Potter" franchise into new territories, including the reintroduction of a younger Albus Dumbledore, whose hinted upon homosexuality will be touched upon, in a story that faces him with his rival, Gellert Grindelwald, played by Johnny Depp.

Rowling is currently at work on the screenplay for the sequel, which is expected to land in theaters November 16, 2018. On the challenge of writing four more screenplays on top of one she openly admitted she found hard writing, Rowling told THR: "I'm never complacent - I'm always feeling like I gotta do my best work, and I'm always pretty hard on myself. We've set ourselves an ambitious story to tell in five movies, but it's going to be challenging and exciting - all the things I like."
