Is Disney Planning To Buy Netflix?

Rumor has it: Disney is planning to buy the popular movie and television streaming service, Netflix. The report comes from Tech Crunch, which takes note of such swirling rumors.

Disney---or as others would call it: The Mouse House---has been known for buying properties that give them a slew of new content. For example, in 2006, they officially bought out Pixar, whose animation features they have been distributing since the late 90's. In 2009, they purchased Marvel Entertainment, allowing them to jump on its bandwagon of multi-billion superhero success post-"Iron Man". And finally, in 2012, they famously bought Lucasfilm Entertainment, which owns some of the biggest film franchises in cinema history including "Indiana Jones" and "Star Wars". Should their attempt at purchasing what is currently the biggest streaming service in the world prove successful, Disney will also successfully make their buying pattern manifest.

Originally a DVD/Blu-ray renting service, Netflix boldly jumped in the movie and television streaming game quite early and has since reaping massive rewards. While Netflix is, primarily, a streaming service, it is also a producer of original content. And with undeniable successes such as "Orange Is The New Black", "Making a Murderer", and most recently, "Stranger Things", it is no surprise that the streaming giant caught Disney's attention.

This is, of course, a rumor, and only time will tell whether Netflix will sell out. The timing, however, is interesting: Netflix could do a reliable mother company at the face of increasingly powerful streaming adversaries such as Hulu and Amazon Prime, and AT&T, indeed one of the biggest companies in the world, just bought TimeWarner.
