Titanfall 3, Not Assured Due To Low Sales of Titanfall 2

Titanfall 2 was just released last month to stellar reviews. The general consensus was that the sequel greatly upon its predecessor adding features while improving its mechanics. However, despite the praises and high review scores, a sequel may not be on the horizon for the franchise as sales do not reflect the review scores. Still, Electronic Arts, publisher of Titanfall 2 said that it is committed to the Titanfall franchise in spite of the sequel selling less copies than the original. On the other hand, Respawn Entertainment, developer of the Titanfall series is hesitant about the future of the franchise.

According to Respawn Entertainment head, Vince Zampella, the company isn't sure of making Titanfall 3. "We don't know yet," said Zampella. "[Titanfall 2] is, critically, a huge success. We're really happy with all the reviews and the positive sentiment. Sales, it's too early to tell. We'd definitely like to tell more of the story and the universe. I think it's pretty safe to assume that we'll explore more of it. EA might have announced more" said Vince Zampella. When asked to comment about Electronic Art's statement of being commited to the series, Zampella responded with "So, whatever the f*** that means."

Adding to Titanfall 2's low sales was its timing of release. The game was release one week after EA's own Battlefield 1 and a week before the launch of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare two of the most popular military first person shooters. Many believe that this launch window was the main reason for Titanfall 2's low sales thinking people already had two choices for a first person shooter in one month. Buyer's might have primarily chose either between Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare or Battlefield 1 as their first person shooter game for that month, while ignoring Titanfall 2. When asked to comment about the schedule of release, Vince Zampella said that he didn't know the exact timing of the release and said that he would rather have the window for Titanfall 2 alone. It's unclear what's brewing between Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment. Regardless of which, this news does not bode well for fans of the Titanfall franchise. What was once considered as a "killer app" for the Xbox One may now be fighting for its future.
