'Deadpool 2' Release Date, Cast & Latest News: 'John Wick' Director David Leitch Takes Over; Expect More Bloody Action Soon

"Deadpool 2," starring Ryan Reynolds, will now be directed by David Leitch. Leitch was the co- director of the Keanu Reeves action film "John Wick."

Out with the old, in with the new. "Deadpool 2" welcomes its new director, David Leitch. The film's former director, Tim Miller, bid his goodbye last month. It was reported by  EW that his exit was due to "mutual creative differences" between himself and star Ryan Reynolds. Miller will be working on Fox's adaptation on the novel Influx, which is said to be a trilogy of films.

David Leitch is an actor, stuntman, writer, producer, stunt coordinator and film director. Leitch once starred in films like "Confessions of an Action Star," "Tron: Legacy" and "The Matrix Trilogy." Along with Chad Stahelski, he directed the action- thriller movie John Wick, which starred Keanu Reeves. The film was a box office hit and grossed over $86 million. Weeks after Miller departed directing "Deadpool 2," Leitch sealed the deal to direct it. Leitch's next film is "The Coldest City," which is a Cold War thriller with Charlize Theron and James McAvoy that will be released on Aug. 11, 2017.

Leitch's became the talk of the town days after Deadpool's first director Tim Miller exited the scene. Leitch was reportedly the first name to be in line for the gig. Leitch had a chat with Ryan Reynolds, who is also the producer of the franchise, in New York, and got the job afterwards. The producers were also putting "Deadpool 3" into consideration, which will also have a different filmmaker.

The first "Deadpool" film premiered last February and was a blockbuster success, grossing over $782 million worldwide. It became the seventh highest-grossing film of 2016, and is the highest grossing R-rated film, The Verge says. Hopefully, with David Leitch on board, "Deadpool" will continue getting positive feedbacks and achievements.
