Global Sales Of GameSpot Games Down 2.8% To $1.96B, ‘Titanfall 2’ Sales Disappointing

The year 2016 is the year of “Pokemon GO” which broke records globally as the virtual reality game had millions of gamers worldwide seeking characters to catch. But with the release of “Pokemon Sun and Moon,” the new game emerged as the best-performing games for GameSpot all year.

According to GameSpot, preorders for “Pokemon Sun and Moon” were the highest for any game in GameSpot in five years. However, while it was mentioned in the earnings call that “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare” was underperforming, details such as sales figures were not provided.

On Tuesday, GameSpot reported that for the quarter ended Oct. 29, there was a 2.8 percent decline in global sales of GameSpot games, which reached $1.96 billion, compared to the same period 12 months ago. New software sales went down by 8.6 percent because of the underperformance of games released in the last few weeks of October.

'Titanfall 2' Sales Weak

Although the report did not identify specific titles, the high-profile games released from Oct. 22 through 28 were “Gears of War 4,” “Battlefield 1,” “Civilization VI, “Titanfall 2” and “Skyrim Special Edition.” EA management specifically cited the unimpressive sales of “Titanfall 2” on the first day and first week.

An analyst explained the weak sales of “Titanfall 2” to the game’s release being sandwiched between “Battlefield 1” on Oct. 21 and “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare” on Nov. 4. Meanwhile, IGN reports that Respawn Entertainment, developer of “Titanfall 2,” said the first DLC drop, called Angel City’s Most Wanted, would be available beginning Nov. 30.

First DLC Drop

Contents include the new map of Angel City, a favorite from the original “Titanfall” that would return, the Wingman Elite Pistol which is a new weapon, six new Titan Kits and “Inner Pieces” which is a new Pilot Execution that allows players to phase into an unsuspecting victim.
