The Division will feature ‘endless gameplay’, other details revealed

Tom Clancy’s The Division is one of the hottest prospects of the upcoming year, as far as online multiplayer shooters are concerned. In development under Ubisoft Massive, The Division was announced during Ubisoft's E3 2013 press conference, alongside a seven minute gameplay demo.

While we are still waiting for any real information related to the game, VG247, recently in an interview with producer Fredrik Rundqvist and production director Petter Mannerfelt, managed to get out a number of useful details and features related the game. And this is where it was revealed that the game is looking to offer endless gameplay that will provide a massive replay value for the fans.

“We designed the game to be endless gameplay. It’s hundreds, if not thousands of hours of gameplay that we hope people will enjoy,” Rundqvist stated. And, obviously, this is something interesting that we might get to see with the arrival of the game, especially as to what Rundqvist actually means when he says “endless gameplay.”

On the topic of what’s currently going on with the game’s development, Rundqvist explained that there are a couple of different layers to it. Moreover, there is “an overarching story line that, as one of the last functioning agencies, you need to set out to solve the mysteries behind the man-made virus. Who was behind it? Who distributed it? How can we cure it? All that stuff. And of course, to do so, you need to first of all survive in this chaos where everyone is fighting for the same resources that’s still out there.”

“And you have all the government services shutting down one by one, because people simply don’t show up for work anymore, right? It’s both helping who is left out there and of course going after the big bad guy, you know, the mystery behind the virus.”

Questioned about the game’s ultimate structure and the form it will take on release, Rundqvist confirmed: “The structure that we built for the game so far is that there is a story, but it’s not a linear story. So you need to explore the world and pick out pieces and bricks of the story everywhere. And on the way, doing that, you will also encounter other content and other dynamic encounters and missions. Obviously, if you play with other real players, that’s dynamic in itself. You never know how that will play out.”

The Division is set for Q4 2014 release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
