'Pirates of the Caribbean 5' Release Date, Characters, News & Updates: Johnny Depp No Longer the Lead Star? Fans to See a Darker Plot?

Captain Jack Sparrow is back for more sea-faring adventures in "Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales." However, there are rumors suggesting that he may not be the focus of the upcoming installment anymore. Instead the movie will reportedly shine the spotlight on new characters.

According to the speculations, Johnny Depp's Sparrow may have less air-time in "Pirates of the Caribbean 5." The franchise is allegedly looking to feature the new faces who will join the Black Pearl's captain in his many adventures. It is further suggested that Disney supports this cause since Depp is getting older and may not be able to deliver the required stunts.

If the reports are true, "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" may now focus on Brenton Thwaites' Henry, who is going to look for his father. Henry is the son of Keira Knightley's Elizabeth Swann and Orlando Bloom's Will Turner. The captain of The Flying Dutchman can only step on land once every ten years and this is Henry's chance to see his father face to face.

Meanwhile, moviegoers are looking forward to the stories that "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" will have to tell. Digital Spy suggests that the first trailer for "Dead Men Tell No Tales" may be hinting on a dark path for the franchise. The said teaser focused on Henry and Javier Bardem's Captain Salazar, who came out with a rather spooky debut.

Despite the speculations that Captain Sparrow may not have a lot of time to shine in the big screens, there's still a lot to look forward to in "Pirates of the Caribbean 5." This includes the addition of Kaya Scodelario's Carina Smyth. Carina is rumored to be the love interest of Henry though there are no official confirmations yet.

Bloom will return to reprise his role as Will Jr., the good friend of Captain Jack Sparrow. Fans are ecstatic to see if "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" will depict him as a being similar to Bill Nighy's Davy Jones, who is ultimately a son of the deep sea.

"Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales" is scheduled for release on May 26, 2017.
