Character model for Metal Gear Solid 5's Quiet revealed

More and more, we're getting snippets of information for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. We all knew Snake would be featured as the game's protagonist as tradition dictates, but we still don't know much about the game's other characters. Kaz has already made an appearance in a hospital bed alongside a wounded Snake, there's the possibility of a child version of Psycho Mantis, and the possibility of Ocelot appearing once again. But for once, MGS creator Hideo Kojima has offered a closer look at one of the game's characters, a silent sniper by the name of Quiet.

As promised on his Twitter, Kojima showed a more "revealing" peek at Quiet's character model. We have the pictures below, courtesy of MetalGearSolid.nl.

Little is known about the character, save that her name is derived from her speech. She doesn't talk much, get it? But that's kind of what you'd want from a sniper. Her outfit choice is a bit...odd, given her skillset. I can't imagine this is the sort of thing you'd want to wear while hunting targets through a jungle or bombed out urban landscape. But then again, I've never been a sniper. Most of what I know about the job comes from the Tom Berenger movie and the book jacket from Chris Kyle's autobiography.

But the character's obvious sex appeal was intended by design by orders from Kojima himself. Before we start some Sarkeesian style debate, this is par for the course when it comes to Metal Gear. The main baddies in the previous game in the series, Metal Gear Solid 4: Sons of Liberty, the Beauty and the Beast unit, all of their appearances under the mask were based on models: Screaming Mantis was Scarlett Chorvat, Laughing Octopus was Lyndall Jarvis, Raging Raven was Yumi Kikuchi, and Crying Wolf was Mieko Rye.

This is no different for The Phantom Pain's Quiet, whose voice (or lack thereof) and appearance are performed by Dutch model Stefanie Joosten.

When asked about Quiet during a interview with Famitsu, Hideo Kojima replied: "In the game, Quiet is the main heroine. Whether she is friend or foe has yet to be revealed so I had to be careful when casting her role. MGS normally has old timers and old guys (laughs). Stefanie is very skilled in action but since she never held that type of gun, we asked her do some training at home."

It'll be interesting to see what type of role Quiet will play, though given these models, I assume she'll prove to be a considerably more popular sniper than The End.
