Maybe it's the years-long anticipation finally manifesting itself, but it seems The "Last Guardian" is doing well so far in pre-orders, well enough to exceed Sony's estimates.
"I can't comment with specific details, but I can say that pre-orders for "The Last Guardian" are exceeding expectations," As stated by Joe Palmer, the Product Manager of Sony. "We've seen a really positive response to the Collector's Edition in particular, which despite its higher price point, proves there's a huge appetite for the game," as Joe Palmer added in an interview of MCV.
"Sony" didn't want to fuel the hype, given the game's troubled development, and relied instead on player anticipation to drive pre-orders. "When you're working on a game that has such incredibly high levels of expectation, it's impossible not to consider the pressure of meeting player expectations," as stated by Joe Palmer.
The game looks stunning, with vast ancient deserted structures for the duo to explore and a Team Ico sequel attention to beautiful animation clearly in evidence. A clear visual lineage can be seen here with comparisons to be made with Ico and "The Last Guardian," something which will delight fans of those games.
Anyone who has experienced the bewitching, desolate charms of Ico; a 2002 platform-puzzler for "PlayStation 2" following a boy's quest to escape captivity alongside his female companion, you'll likely draw some similarities with a new title being developed for Oculus platforms called "MARE."
"We've tried to avoid fuelling the hype by playing on the fact that people have been waiting a long time for this. We want people to be excited because the game looks incredible, not because of its complicated development story," as claimed by Joe Palmer.
The "Last Guardian" was still in development since 2007. It was first announced at E3 2009 for PS3 for a 2011 release. After numerous delays, the title will now finally available in store shelves this coming December 6, 2017.
