'How To Train Your Dragon 3' Release Date & Synopsis: Franchise Movie Deferred For 2 Years; Toothless Dragged Away From Home

DreamWorks Animation pushed back for another time the release date for its movie franchise "How To Train Your Dragon," a press release said. The supposed third installment of the film adaptation of Cressida Cowell's novel series has been deferred until March 2019, after it was put off three times since "How To Train Your Dragon 2" hit the theaters in 2014.

Although the third installment was held off until 2019, fans are assured the franchise will push through and even provided synopsis for what they should expect. Dean DeBlois, who will reprised its task as the film director and writer said in an interview that the original cast for voice recording will be back for the third movie, which will be about the completion of Hiccup's transition to adulthood. Toothless will reportedly dragged from home after he discovered an "untamed mate."

"As Hiccup fulfills his dreams of creating a peaceful dragon utopia, Toothless' discovery of an untamed, elusive mate draws the Night Fury away," DeBlois was quoted as saying during an interview last year via Collider. "When danger mounts at home and Hiccup's reign as village chief is tested, both dragon and rider must make an impossible decisions to save their kind," the film director and screenwriter continued.

The latest postponement was due to DreamWorks Animation's restructuring of its movie plan each year. Jeffrey Katzenberg, chief of the film's creator, said in 2015 that the three films every year is an ambitious undertaking. It was reported that such undertaking came after Comcast bought DreamWorks Animation valued at $3.8 million.

Comcast's acquisition of DreamWorks Animation, making it a part of Universal Pictures spells bad news for animation's fans as many franchise movies have been put on hold. "The Croods 2" has also been delayed, changing its release date again to 2018. However, DreamWorks Animation is set to release its film, "The Boss Baby" in April 2017.
