‘The Circle’ News & Update: First Trailer Released

The first look on the big screen adaptation of Dave Eggers' best-selling novel, "The Circle", is finally here! If "Black Mirror" does not scare you enough away from social media, maybe this will.

"The Circle" trailer from Movieclips Trailers first introduces Mae Holland (the character played by Emma Watson), a tech graduate who is being interviewed for a job at the Silicon Valley-like company. She eventually lands a job at the said industry giant. She quickly became fascinated with the perks that the company gives to its employees.

"The Circle" trailer then jumps into a scene where Eamon Bailey (Tom Hank's character) is speaking in front of a lot of Circle employees. Tom Hanks here is like Steve Jobs - but only from hell. He is obsessed with radical transparency; as he says in the clip, "knowing is good, but knowing is better."

He continues, "When we are our best selves, the possibilities are endless. At the circle, there isn't a problem that we can solve... without the hoarding of knowledge and information."

"The Circle" trailer's sweet aura in the beginning turns sour at the speed of light. The clip shows a camera - which, by the way, kind of looks similar to Samsung's Gear VR 360 -- tracking everyone around the world. In the novel, "The Circle" invents "SeeChange", a product that makes everyone easily broadcast themselves at once to millions of people worldwide.

Kalden (John Boyega's character) is also shown in "The Circle" trailer. He leads Mae into a secret room where footage of people around the globe can be seen.

"The Circle" trailer later cuts into a scene where Mae is standing in front of a big screen. She then screams in horror after watching a car crash footage captured by one of the cameras.

Directed by James Ponsoldt, "The Circle" will debut on April 28, 2017. Watch the trailer below.
