Switching from an iPhone to an Android phone is not only a change of brand but also a change of an entire operating system. Switching OS may result in file and format incompatibility. This makes the transfer of private data, such as Contacts, a tricky process as the files need to be converted to a format that the Android OS can read or Google Contacts can be use.

Transferring Contacts from IOS To Android Via ITunes

There are two ways to sync contacts with Google Contacts, one with iTunes and the other with iCloud. When using iTunes, a Google account is needed; then manually back up iPhone contacts to the computer using iTunes. First, open iTunes and plug in the iPhone to the computer via a USB cable. Select iPhone in iTunes.

Under the Info tab, choose to Sync Contacts with Google Contacts. It will flash a prompt asking to enter use Gmail username and password. Wait for it to sync. Transferring Contacts from IOS To Android Via ICloud

When using iCloud, the user needs to back up important data on the iPhone to iCloud. First, go to iCloud.com and login to the iCloud account. Click on Contacts and the contacts list will appear that has been backed up in iCloud.

Press Ctrl + A to select all contacts, click on the Settings button on the bottom left, then select Export vCard. User will then Login to the Gmail account and go to Gmail> Contacts then click on Import Contacts. An alert will be prompted. Choose export vCard> File> click Import to all iPhone contacts to Google contacts.

Now that iPhone contacts to Google Contacts are exported successfully, the user can begin to restore it to the Android phone. On the Android phone, go to Menu > Settings > Accounts and Sync. Tap on Add Account and choose Google then tap on Sign in and key in the Gmail account to sync contacts to.

There may be duplicate contacts upon importing contacts. To get rid of duplicates, if any, click on More> then click on Find & Merge Duplicates. After going through the names, select the duplicate contacts, click Merge and it's done.
