Pokemon Go News & Updates: Niantic Attempts To Fix Nearby Pokemon Tracker But With Mixed Results

The latest edition of the Pokemon Go tracking system is now available to players worldwide, with new features that are meant to pacify those who weren't happy with the previous update.

The way the tracking system works with the latest update is that players will now have two different ways to track Pokemon. The old Sightings system will still remain and show players which active Pokemon are nearby within a 200m radius circle around, while the new tracking system Nearby allows you to track Pokemon by seeing which Pokestop they're closest to.

Players will notice that sometimes they have the Nearby tracking system on, or the Sightings, or both at the same time. If the player isn't near to Pokestops, they'll only have Sightings. But if the player is close to only a few Pokestops, they'll get both systems with one on top of the other. If there are a lot of Pokestops nearby for the player and there are more than three Pokemons around, they'll get the Nearby system instead.

The game does this automatically, which means there is no way to manually toggle which tracking system you'll use. Players with many Pokestops around their vicinity can't use Sightings if they just want to check what Pokemons are immediately around them. What some users want is to have a way to manually alternate between Sightings or Nearby, depending on which tracking system they prefer to use. Preferably, there should be a seperate section for Sighting instead, so players have a way to check which Pokemon is around the approximate vicinity, instead of having to go to longer distances to find specific places where Pokemon reside.

While most Pokemon Go fans online celebrate the roll-out of the Nearby tracker, there still seems to be a few shortcomings to be ironed out. Niantic has shown how responsive they are on player feedback, so we can expect more changes to come to the tracking system in the near future.
