'Suicide Squad' Actor Will Smith Explained Why He Chose The Movie Over 'Independence Day 2'

Will Smith faced a very tough challenge last year because he had to choose between "Independence Day 2" and "Suicide Squad". He could have worn a suit and defeat aliens again in "Independence Day 2", a sequel to the movie that propelled the actor to stardom two decades ago. But Will Smith decided to become Deadshot in "Suicide Squad" instead.

Will Smith said in a report by Entertainment Weekly that there are two screenplays in front of him and he had to choose between the two movies. He said that his choice has nothing to do with the qualities of the movie. But when it comes to movies, he wants to go forward than to "claw and cling backwards." He further explained that he is aggressive in going forward and doing new things.

Currently, Will Smith is working on his newest movie "Collateral Beauty" and he said in a Facebook interview that he wants to see the future, instead of the past when it comes to his decision making on what project he wants to pursue.

Will Smith was supposed to reprise his role as Captain Steven Hiller in "Independence Day: Resurgence." It was, however, just as well because the character was killed off in the sequel, with the storyline that the character died because of an unknown malfunction during the first Alien Hybrid Fighter's test flight.

When Will Smith learned about his supposed to be character's fate, he found himself sitting with tears. He was working on "Suicide Squad" that time and he was talking with "Independence Day: Resurgence" director Roland Emmerich. He cannot deny it, but the trailer looks cool. However, when he found out that his character died, he thought that it was terrible.
