'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' Release Date, Latest News & Updates: Director Defends Adding Baby Groot, Find Out Why!

Fans of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" still have to wait for six months before they could watch the movie, but the release of the first trailer with Baby Groot is a great way to ease anxious fans. There's no question that Baby Groot has massive appeal and may contribute to the film's success.

According to CNET, one of the favorite ploys of TV shows back in the '70s and '80s is adding a cute little character like that in "The Cosby Show" where it starred cute little Olivia (Raven-Symoné) and "The Brady Bunch" which starred Cousin Oliver. It was confirmed by "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" director James Gunn that Baby Groot is not like Cousin Oliver.

Meanwhile, it was reported in Nerdist that the inclusion of Baby Groot may just be a marketing scheme in order to sell toys. However, the director pushed back against the claim and explained why Groot was still a baby although the original plan is for Groot to be an adult once again.

The cute character Baby Groot grabbed the attention of many viewers as shown in the latest trailer because of his cute liquid eyes as well as his relationship with the death button. Last Saturday, the movie received as series of tweets and Director James Gunn defended the character.

When he was asked if it is a sort of a marketing scheme to sell more items, Gun wrote on his Twitter that he is also aware that some people may think that way, but keeping Baby Groot is considered as a creative change for him. Furthermore, he said that he was not sure if keeping the character will be allowed by the studio as the most popular character in the first film is adult Groot.

When he was asked about why there is a switch in Groot, he responded that Groot evolved spiritually. "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will be launched in theaters on May 5, 2017.
