'The Last Man on Earth' Season 3 Episode 9 Spoilers, News & Update: Fall Finally Ended Tragic; Gail Going Up To Heaven? [RECAP]

Fans of "The Last Man on Earth" were left appalled as the post-apocalyptic TV series season 3 episode 9 titled "If You're Happy And You Know It" ended with a shock on Sunday (December 11) night. It seemed that Gail is going up to heaven.

After trying to get some peace and quiet time away from her reluctantly adopted daughter Carol (Kristen Schaal), our chef-turned-failed-doctor-turned-professional-drinker Gail Klosterman (Mary Steenburgen) was trapped in an elevator. In her attempt to signal her fellow survivors, she appeared to take her own life after a series of unfortunate events in "The Last Man on Earth" Season 3 Episode 9.

Several times around the elevator in "The Last Man on Earth" Season 3 Episode 9, she fired a previously emptied gun in frustration. Regrettably, one of the shots ricocheted and went straight to her thigh, apparently leaving her dead.

Meanwhile, the best part of "The Last Man on Earth" is Tandy (Will Forte) and Carol's belated honeymoon in an effort to get Carol's mind off of Gail. Tandy suggested they go on a camping trip for their honeymoon and recreated the site of their first meeting. The two of them went fishing in a nearby lake. Carol seemed deflated, but not until she suddenly catches a fish. She named the fish Gail, in honor if her pseudo-adoptive mom.

Later that night, Tandy and Carol went out their camper to find Gail after it jumped out of its bucket. Thought that it could be dead, Carol eulogized the fish. Moments later in "The Last Man on Earth" Season 3 Episode 9, Gail's tail began flopping in the water. The fish was still alive after all!

The plot of "The Last Man on Earth" Season 3 Episode 9, written by Erik Durbin & Will Forte, seemed to illustrate how miracles and beauty can still happen in an abandoned, inhumane world, one where humanity hangs on by a threat. Stay tuned for more "The Last Man on Earth" updates.
