Cristiano Ronaldo beats Lionel Messi, winning the Ballon d'Or 2016 for the fourth time. But you may be wondering, who actually is the public favourite this time? Haven't the people got enough of Ronaldo since he already won the award for the fourth time already?

Cristiano Ronaldo, the Real Madrid forward is a public favourite both inside and outside of the field, no wonder he won the prestigious award again. And it's not just about the looks - it was his skill and charisma that brought his team to win last season's Champions League.

So far, Cristiano Ronaldo won the prestigious Ballon d'Or in 2008, 2013, 2014, and this year of 2016. While his rival Lionel Messi only won the award last 2009.

Receiving the award, Cristiano Ronaldo said, "I never though in my mind that I would win the Golden Ball four times. I am pleased. I feel so proud and happy. I have the opportunity to thank all of my team-mates, the national team, Real Madrid, all of the people and players who helped me to win this individual award."

So how was the Ballon d'Or awarded? It will be voted by 173 journalists from around the world. In the past, the said award is granted by the France Football since 1956. However, for the past 6 years, it was the Fifa Ballon d'Or association who decides on who will win the prestigious award.

But of course, Messi didn't went all way too behind. He stood close with his rival helping Barcelona win La Liga last season, scoring 50 goals in 50 games in 2016.

It only proves that Cristiano Ronaldo's charisma hasn't gone off. But Messi can still fight closely finishing in second place. While the third in terms of votes goes to Atletico Madrid's forward Antoine Griezmann.

Will Ronaldo win the title again next year? We'll just have to wait to find out more.
