'The Batman' Release Date, Latest News & Updates: Ben Afleck Talks About the Development Of Batman Standalone Movie, Reveals He's Writing The Screenplay

"Batman v Superman" actor Ben Afleck is apparently involved in the creation of yet another solo "Batman" film. The actor talked about the development of the movie and confirmed he's working on the screenplay.

In an interview in New York Times, Affleck says he's still working on the screenplay for the standalone film, tentatively titled "The Batman." DC Comics CEO Geoff Johns is said to be co-writing the film.

When asked if he truly is writing the standalone "Batman" film, Affleck confirmed it, although he didn't reveal any more details. "I am [writing it]; that doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to be good. [laughs] I'm a real believer in not doing, not reverse engineering projects to meet a window or a date, but rather like when you get the right story or you get the right idea or you get the right thing, then you make the movie," he said.

There is no official date of release of "The Batman", but Coming Soon reported that it will be out in June 14, 2019. It is one of the reasons why "Justice League 2" has been postponed. Zack Snyder, who directed the first "Justice League" film, is scheduled to be working on a smaller project called "The Last Photograph", while "Justice League 2" waits for production.

Reports also suggest that "The Batman" will see Affleck's caped crusader go face-to-face with Death Stroke (to be played by Joe Manganielo). It is confirmed that Jeremy Irons will also star as Alfred and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon. Are you excited to see "The Batman" in 2019?
