Microsoft Windows Glitches, Latest News & Update: Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 PCs Dropping Wi-Fi Connections Randomly; No Fix So Far

Several Windows 10 users are complaining about their WiFi suddenly losing connection. Many speculated that the Windows 10 internet problem may have stemmed from the recent update.

Windows 10 Units Suddenly Lose WiFi Connection

Techworm reported that Microsoft launched the new cumulative update KB3201845 for Windows 10 on Dec. 9, 2016 to address various mobile issues and errors in the anniversary update. However, the patch seems to be causing PCs and laptops that run on Windows 10 to suddenly drop WiFi connection while working.

Many users complained that they completely lost internet connection. Beta testers used the new Windows 10 update before it was released, and the issue was not detected then. The WiFi problem may have also affected some units running on Windows 7 and 8.1 as well.

There is no pattern on which units are affected at the moment. Users who tried the troubleshooter will be told that their WiFi does not have a valid IP configuration. Some experts speculated that the Windows 10 problem may be caused by a fast boot that sets the computer to a certain IP address.

Possible Solutions

Microsoft acknowledged that various Windows 10 users are having difficulty connecting to the internet. They recommended customers to restart their PCs and visit the Microsoft Support Page if necessary.

This means that the issue is still not completely determined by Microsoft, so users will have to continue struggling with low or zero internet connection until a patch is provided. The Register wrote that instead of restarting Windows 10, using static IP addresses may offer a better solution.

The Windows 10 issue apparently originated from a specific update that disrupted the Windows Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) client. As a result, a router address, LAN-side IP address and DNS settings cannot be automatically acquired from the broadband router. Other possible solutions include flushing commands, installing an alternative OS or revert their updates to an earlier point in time.

Microsoft did not specify which update caused the Windows 10 WiFi problem, but the company should make an announcement soon. More updates and details are expected in the coming days.
