‘Emerald City': Wizard of Oz Questions Dorothy's Purpose in New Trailer

The new "Emerald City" trailer shows the Wizard of Oz ask Dorothy about her purpose in the city. Meanwhile, details about the show promise viewers with wonderful, gorgeous and creepy atmosphere in the series.

The new "Emerald City" trailer from NBC features Dorothy's meeting with the Wizard of Oz (Vincent D'Onofrio). The wizard questions Dorothy's purpose in Emerald City.

"You ask yourself why you were brought to us?" the Wizard of Oz asks Dorothy (Adria Arjona) in the trailer below.

In the same "Emerald City" trailer, the Wizard of Oz wonders if Dorothy is hiding a secret. He begins to doubt that she is not just a simple girl from Kansas.

Of course, the trailer reveals that Dorothy possesses magical powers. This is why the sisters of The Wicked Witch of the East (Florence Kasumba) keep her as their prisoner. They want to get her magic, since Emerald City has supposedly been without it until Dorothy arrived.

It remains unclear yet how Dorothy even gained her magical powers. Perhaps she inherited the witch's powers when she killed her. Dorothy accidentally run The Wicked Witch of the East over with her car, when the tornado crash landed her in Emerald City.

Meanwhile, details about the new NBC series promised that fans will be enticed by the scenery in the show. The images and settings seem so vivid and realistic. TV Line's Matt Webb Mitovich said that he has already watched two hours of the series and assured viewers that the scenery is just gorgeous.

"The set designs are wonderfully innovative (and sometimes super-creepy)," he said.

Likewise, Mitovich complimented actresses Adria Arjona and called her portrayal of Dorothy as "magnetic." However, Mitovich said that despite the intricate setup and scenery, the storyline for "Emerald City" supposedly seems a little "glacial." Does the show lack warmth and has a slow build up in storytelling? Fans will have to find out for themselves when it airs on Jan. 6, 2017.
