ObsCure Games Releasing on Steam in March

The early 2000's were an interesting time for the survival horror genre. In 2001 we got Silent Hill 2 and the first Fatal Frame. In 2002 we received Clock Tower 3 and The Thing; 2004 saw DOOM 3, Siren, and Silent Hill 4: The Room. In 2005 ObsCure, developed by Hydravision Entertainment (now Mighty Rocket Studios), released on PC, PlayStation 2, and the Xbox to mixed reception. Several years later, ObsCure 2: The Aftermath came to a bevy of platforms, the PSP and Wii included.

But with no means to purchase either game on PC, the French developer has opted to re-release both ObsCure and ObsCure 2: The Aftermath on Steam in the first week of March. With its re-release, the two games will include new features such as the ability to display at 16:9 and Xbox 360 controller support.

Upon closing in 2012, Hydravision Entertainment resurfaced as Mighty Rocket Studios. Mighty Rocket released an ObsCure spinoff game by the name of Final Exam last November on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PC. Shifting the series' genre from survival horror to a side-scroller brawler upset ObScure fans, but, perhaps, this re-release of the first two games will make people happy again.

ObsCure follows a group of teenagers trapped in their High School. Using light as a weapon, the teens must battle mutant-plant monsters an escape their school. The sequel, The Aftermath, revisits the surviving kids at college – where their past catches up with them and a whole new adventure begins ... with even more plant monsters.

I have personally never played an ObsCure game, but by the sounds of it, it sounds like cheesy good fun. Who doesn't want to watch a group of teenagers fight mutant plants? I know I do. It all sounds a bit like "The Faculty", doesn't it? That film is a guilty pleasure of mine, so I can see myself enjoying the B-movie vibes from this series.

ObsCure and its sequel will be available on Steam on March 7th for an undisclosed price. Mighty Rocket Sudio also says that this re-release will be "Good memories while waiting for the next opus". Interesting.
