The Last of Us Sequel Not Confirmed: Naughty Dog Says Odds Are 50/50

Naughty Dog on The Last of Us 2: 50/50 Odds

Neil Druckmann, Naughty Dog's creative director, recently conducted a Reddit Ask Me Anything thread in which he took and answered questions from the community. Despite being an AMA, which can technically be about anything, there were a vast majority of questions pertaining to The Last of Us, Naughty Dog's most recent and highly esteemed release.

In the AMA, Neil divulged the odds of whether or not we will see another game in The Last Of Us' world. “If you're asking about a sequel... right now I'd say it's 50/50,” said Druckmann. He then later stated if we were to get a sequel with Joel or Ellie, it would have to be different, not more of the same. “A good idea for a story that doesn't repeat what we've done, but somehow builds on the original. Short of that we won't make a sequel.”

While I personally don't think that we need a sequel that stars either Ellie or Joel, I would love to see another game in the world that Naughty Dog has so masterfully crafted. The Last of Us is one of those games that deserves its praise, even if it seems a bit unrelenting (DICE 2014, I'm looking at you).

During the Spike TV All Access event, Naughty Dog announced the next entry in the Uncharted series. While this game is still a year or two away, it's probably best if Naughty Dog tinkers with the PS4 and Uncharted for a bit so that if they do come back to The Last of Us they'll have a fresh perspective, and hopefully deliver us a story that can rival the first game's.
