Flappy Bird Deleted: A Flappy Bird Clone is Added to the Apple App Store Every 24 Minutes

A Flappy Bird Clone is Added to the Apple App Store Every 24 Minutes

If you've been on the internet at all these past several weeks, you'll probably know what Flappy Bird is, or at least heard of it. This app sensation by Vietnamese mobile developer Dong Nguyen flooded the internet tubes a while back due to its immense and sudden success. The internet did what it did best and sensationalized, obsessed, and even attacked Nguyen over his incredibly simple yet popular Flappy Bird game.

Since Nguyen's choice to take the game down, both the Android App Store and Apple App Store have seen loads and loads of Flappy Bird clones. Filling the flappy voids in peoples hearts or capitalizing on trends, developers have been releasing a variety of flappy clones with some being shameless ripoffs and others trying to be a little bit more unique.

Website Pocket Gamer has recently tracked the numbers behind these clones and you're probably going to be surprised by the outcome. According to the site, on average 60 Flappy Bird cones appear on the Apple App Store daily. On February 28, 69 clones were added to the store. The following day saw 48, and the following day after that 75. Pocket Gamer thankfully did the complex math for us and deduced that the Apple App store is technically receiving 2.5 clones an hour, or one clone every 24 minutes.

Flappy Bird Mod: Grand Theft Auto Flappy Has Finally Happened

If imitation is the most sincerest form of flattery, then Dong Nguyen should be one happy fellow. If the lack of innovation upsets you, then it's time to flush your phone down the toilet and cry about the good old days when there were only hundreds of clones of Angry Birds, instead.
