Xbox One Controller Driver: Modder Creates Unofficial Xbox One Controller Support on PC [VIDEO]

Modder Creates Unofficial Xbox One Controller Support on PC [VIDEO]

It has been several months since the Xbox One launched. Oddly, the Xbox One controller to this day is still not compatible with the PC. Which is odd considering the fact that the Xbox 360 controller is essentially the gold standard for PC gaming controllers, with numerous games supporting both the controller and its button icons. Despite this, Microsoft have been fairly mum on the subject of making their new controller compatible for those playing games on PC.

In August, a Microsoft representative spoke to Kotaku and gave them a few slivers of information on why the controllers wouldn't ship with PC compatibility. "While it seems trivial, it's actually quite a bit of dedicated work for all that to be seamless for the user. We know people want to use the Xbox One controller on their PC, and we do too - we expect to have the functionality available in 2014," A Microsoft representative told the site.

Well, here we are part way into 2014 and we still have no new news on the subject. But here comes a modder to the rescue! Lucas Assis, modder and champion of the people has released a new tool that works in tandem with a few other software emulators to bring Xbox One controller support to PC.

Lucas' custom software was written in a day and works alongside Vjoy, a controller emulator, LibUSB, and an Xbox 360 Controller emulator like Xpadder or X360CE.

The software is of course unofficial, so flawless support should not be expected. Until Microsoft releases the official drivers, people like me that want a new and fancy controller for PC gaming will have to either hold off on an Xbox One controller purchase or make use of mods like the one Lucas has developed.

Fun fact: The DualShock 4 is Windows PC compatible out of the box. Are you gonna let Sony get away with that, Microsoft? On your own home turf?
