Sony Says The Last Guardian is "Absolutely in the Mix", 'Love[s] That People are Still Interested'

If there's one game Sony loves to dangle in front of us and tease us about, it's The Last Guardian. Announced in 2009 for the PlayStation 3 and having been in development since 2007, Team Ico's (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus) third game is still no where to be found, despite numerous reports that it's still coming. Today we have a new "it's still coming" report by way of IGN.

Sony's Scott Rohde spoke to IGN recently and revealed that the game is still "absolutely in the mix".

"You're going to be very frustrated by this answer," Rohde told IGN, "but it is 100 percent the God's honest truth, and that is that we want to make great games. And when we see that the public is so interested in a specific game, of course that drives us to want to complete that game. But it also drives us to want to make it great. We would not want to ship that game if we don't think it's great."

The Last Guardian has been absent from Sony shows and conferences for years. With the launch of the PlayStation 4, many people speculate that the game has now moved to Sony's current generation console. When asked about that potential shift from last to current gen, Rohde declined to give specifics. Rhode said that he's "not going to announce what platform it's coming on, who's working on it, who's involved. But that is still a title that's absolutely in the mix at Worldwide Studios. That's the most you're gonna get."

"I love that people are still interested in it. That's an honor to us. That's not just me spinning... It's really cool that people are still interested in it, and we're trying to make the best thing we can out of The Last Guardian," Rhode concluded.

Well, with all of these promises an teasing, The Last Guardian is most likely still coming. A delay now would destroy the trust that Sony has built with its audience and eager fans of Team Ico's games. The fact that they've been dodging PS4 questions for so long implies that they're either hoping a last gen release won't disappoint people or want to surprise us with a better looking game that what we've been expecting. Either way, the game has seen a rocky development and an announcement on when and where to expect it would be appreciated.

Here's hoping Sony finally shows us The Last Guardian at this year's E3 and hopefully it will be worth the wait.
