PlayStation VR Gamers in North America Get 'Unearthing Mars'; PSVR Sales Exceeding Expectations

PlayStation VR is slated to get the red planet environment from Winking Entertainment. Note that the launch will take place on March 7 exclusively for the PlayStation VR. In addition, Sony has revealed that it is nearing its goal of total sold units for the PlayStation VR.

The developers previously announced that a PlayStation VR was in the works and would see release in Asian territories. The company confirmed the North American release ahead of an updated playable build at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), VR Focus reported. It has further been revealed that the game experience would include 10 different stages with unique gameplay mechanic.

PlayStation VR players are slated to take the role of a team member sent to recover fragments of the Phobos satellite. It is believed that the mysterious Phobos holds the clues to the possibility of an ancient civilization on the red planet. Moreover, the experience is said to take on two forms, one where players will operate a Mars landing craft vehicle first hand and another that involves puzzle solving and gunplay.

The PlayStation VR is said to require investment on the part of the developers in facial and body motion capture equipment to make movements more fluid. Winking Entertainment also assured players the fullest immersion in virtual reality with minimal on-screen UI and full voice covers to guide players and tell the story.

PlayStation VR Exceeds Expectation

In other news, the PlayStation chief Andrew House revealed that the PlayStation VR has already sold 915,000 units as of Feb. 19, Kotaku reported. Apparently, the total units of PlayStation VR sold is already nearing the company's goal of one million units sold in the first six months. However, critics claim that Sony's expectations may be set too low.

PlayStation VR goal is said to be a cautious projection aimed at giving success to the new virtual reality technology. However, it has been noted that the PlayStation VR has been difficult to find ever since releasing last fall. Apparently, waves of pre-orders sold out quickly leading up to its release.
