Dragon Age Inquisition Continues to Look Great in New Screenshots

Dragon Age: Inquisition will hopefully be an improvement over its rather disappointing predecessor, which recycled environments and seemed a bit rushed overall. We recently saw it in action in its first gameplay trailer and graphically it looks to be a major step up from Dragon Age 2 (though that's to be expected three years later). We now have a new batch of screenshots to pore over and judge, but I don't think they'll draw any criticism--everything continues to look good.

The recent trailer showed off some fantastic-looking settings, much improved character models and pretty effects. Much of the same is on display here, with a wide variety of enemy types and scenery present and looking quite good.

It certainly makes me wish this is what we had seen in Dragon Age 2, which took on a stylized, almost comic book-type graphics style rather than aiming for realism. It was interesting, but didn't look too great, much like the quality of the game. There were some intriguing story elements and the combat was fun, but the game was long and tedious, requiring you to tread old ground and nearly the entire game taking place within the city of Kirkwall.

Dragon Age: Inquisition looks to be a more free-roam type affair--perhaps not quite as open as Skyrim, but more akin to the semi-open world of The Witcher 2. The constricting limits of Kirkwall (which also was a rather dull city and setting on top of being where 95 per cent of the game takes place) seem to have been replaced with varied, more open wilderness, though some urban locales can also be seen.
