Portal Announced for Nvidia Shield as Price Drops to $199

Nvidia Shield Will Be Getting Portal As Well As a $50 Price Cut

It was all the way back in 2007 that we were placed in Aperture Science's test course led by the enigmatic and hilarious villain GLaDOS, but portable gamers are about to get their first taste of Portal on the Nvidia Shield.

According to the Nvidia Blog and announced yesterday at the GPU Technology Conference by Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, development is underway at Valve to bring the first-person puzzle hit to the Shield.

"We're teaming up with Valve to bring the critically acclaimed Portal to SHIELD, as we just announced at the GPU Technology Conference," the blog states.

Folks at Valve are apparently impressed with the Shield enough to bring over what would arguably become one of the best-looking and full-featured games on the system.

"NVIDIA has created a very powerful and unique device with SHIELD," Valve's Doug Lombardi said. "Our companies have a strong history working together and we're looking forward to Portal's arrival on SHIELD."

Although Portal is most definitely coming to Shield now, it was not made clear if the hit game would be on its way to other Android devices as well, although The Verge reports that "a (Nvidia) representative says that it won't be technically locked to Tegra chips, and might also come to the greater Android platform."

The announcement of Portal's development went hand-in-hand with an announcement that the Shield will now be retailing for just $199 for a limited time, a drop from the usual $249 price tag.

The question now becomes: will a price drop and Portal be enough to start selling some Shields? Only time will tell.
