Galaxy S5 Release Date Approaching, More Payment Plans Outlined

The HTC One M8 may be the talk of the town after its reveal and release yesterday, but I don't think anyone will be forgetting about the Samsung Galaxy S5, due out April 11. T-Mobile and Sprint recently announced that they're offering $0 down payment plans with monthly installments to customers who can't or don't want to pay for the phone up front without subsidization via a new contract.

T-Mobile is currently offering the S5 for no cost up front and $27.50 monthly charges over the course of 24 months, totaling $660 for the phone over the lifetime of that deal. Starting on the device's release date April 11, Sprint will sell it for zero dollars down and $27.09 per month.

If either of these are your provider, it's a good way to pay for the phone if you're buying it without a new two-year contract, which would cost $200. AT&T already announced that you can pay the $200 in $25 per month installments with their Next early upgrade program if you're signing a new contract. Note that Sprint is not offering pre-orders on the S5, though you can reserve the device if you wish.

The HTC One M8 received very high praise when the first reviews rolled out yesterday, so we know the device is a worthy competitor for the Samsung juggernaut. Whether they can manage to keep up in sales is another issue--Samsung's advertising over the past few years with the success of the Galaxy line has been aggressive and effective in creating a strong brand.
