'Hannibal at the Gates' Rome II Total War DLC Now Available, Alongside Free 'Seasons & Wonders' Update [VIDEO]

Total War: Rome II's Hannibal at the Gates DLC Released Alongside Seasons & Wonders Update

Sega has announced that the Hannibal at the Gates expansion DLC has been released for Total War: Rome II. Hannibal offers up a new campaign map that's set at the time period of the 2nd Punic War, where Rome and Carthage went to -wait for it - total war. As per usual there's a massive amount of new units and fixes for the game, just a huge amount of content to play with.

In Hannibal at the Gates you can play as Carthage, Rome, Syracuse, or for the first time in the series, a Iberian faction as the Arevaci or Lusitani. The brand new map features 19 provinces- if you pick Carthage or Rome you start in conflict but with a number of key regions and client states under your control. Syracuse, the Arevaci and the Lusitani all start with a one region, which will make it much tougher to play as them. It might be a good idea to use the new diplomacy technology in place.

The smaller scope makes the multiplayer campaign shorter and tighter, and seeks to make co-op or competitive 2-player campaigns faster and more fun.  There are also two new Historical battles- the Battle of Cannae (216BC) and the Battle of Zama (202BC). Both battles marked key points in the 2nd Punic War, with Cannae representing the high point of Hannibal's invasion of Italy, and Zama marking the completion of Rome's victory and dominance over Carthage.

The Seasons & Wonders update is free for all Total War: Rome II players and features all sorts of wonders of the world like The Colossous of Rhodes and the Oracle of Amun Ra. The update includes a unit-roster expansion for Carthage, Twitch streaming support, touchscreen support, and introduces seasons into the Rome II Grand Campaign. The update brings the usual bugfixes, a host of technival, AI and gameplay improvements. This is free so there's no reason to grab it!

Hannibal at the Gates is now available for $14.99.
