‘CoD Warzone 2’ Reported In the Works, To Be Released in 2023

Several news outlets reported that Activision will be started working with the new three Call of Duty games for several platforms, all of which will be released in 2023. This news came after Microsoft acquired the video game development company and Blizzard Entertainment for $69 billion last week.

The said games will include a possible new entry for its Modern Warfare series and a possible sequel to Call of Duty: Warzone.

According to Bloomberg, Activision first announced that they were focused on doing new Call of Duty games for the PlayStation 5 even before Microsoft bought the gaming company. Besides, the gaming publication will continue its plans as part of their agreement with Sony, which will remain in effect for at least the next two more years.

Phil Spencer, the recently appointed chief executive officer for Microsoft Gaming, stated that the company would continue honoring the existing agreement between Activision and Sony regarding the Call of Duty games, which is being published for the PlayStation, adding that the maker of the said console is an important part of the gaming industry, and because of that, they will value the relationship between the two.

The said sequel for Warzone in question, according to Comicbook, will be named simply as "Call of Duty: Warzone 2," and according to Tom Henderson, a Call of Duty insider, the sequel will not become an update to the current title.

However, in a tweet from his Twitter page, Warzone 2 will be released in 2023 not just for the PlayStation 5 but also to the Xbox Series X|S and Next Generation PCs, which means that players who are currently playing Warzone in either PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will not gain access to the sequel once it rolls out

In the same tweet from Henderson, according to Gamesradar, he clarified the sequel would not have anything to do with Warzone's free-to-play battle royale mode. Instead, it would be a stand-alone game that would be launched on the aforementioned gaming platforms.

Aside from the sequel for Warzone, Activision will also be working with a new entry for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare along with Infinity Ward, as well as another Call of Duty game, which is in development at Treyarch Studios, which also provided help in producing other Call of Duty games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Vanguard, both of which had the Zombies Mode that they have created.

As of writing this story, Microsoft, Sony, and Activision haven't released any comment regarding the Call of Duty releases. However, the software company said that once the acquisition closes sometime in the next six to 18 months, they will decide if they will continue releasing future Call of Duty games for PlayStation consoles.

On the other hand, employees in Activision have discussed that they might space out the releases for the first-person shooting game series rather than releasing them every year.
