Retro Studios Post 'Metroid'-related Artwork on Twitter, Leaving Fans Curious

Retro Studios, the developers of the Metroid Prime series, recently updated the profile banner for their Twitter Page revealing an artwork that might drop hints regarding Metroid Prime 4.

This was months after the video game developing studio posted on social media that they are looking for individuals who are willing to work for them on several projects, including Metroid Prime 4.

The artwork that was spotted by Nibel on Twitter, according to Nintendo Life, shows a silhouette of Samus Aran, the protagonist of the Metroid series, standing far in a dimly lit alien-like atmospheric corridor.

The artwork also has a bluish filter that gives an impression that she is underground or within a spaceship. An added border at its top and bottom suggests that another character looks at Samus through its visor.

After the artwork was posted on Twitter, several people, including fans of the platformer, were speculating if it has connections with Metroid Prime 4, which the developers are still working on.

According to Kotaku, a Twitter user pointed out the top and bottom borders in the artwork, saying that it might be from the point of view of Sylux, a character from Metroid Prime Hunters that has an intense hatred for the Galactic Federation and Samus.

A member from ResetEra, a video game forum site, even wrote that the setting in the artwork gave a hint that Metroid Prime 4 might be darker and more desolate than its previous titles.

It also added that Retro Studios might go back to the creepy nature that the original Metroid game delivered.

Redditor even speculated that the artwork's filter had the same color as the Phazon energy that was seen throughout the original Metroid Prime trilogy.

The Phazon energy had a big part in the Metroid Prime games, including Metroid Prime 2, as it created the game's main antagonist, Dark Samus, and the new breed of mutated Metroids.

This is not the first time Retro Studios teased the fans regarding Metroid Prime 4.

Last Jan. 28, the developing studio announced through Twitter post that they are looking for a Tools Engineer and a Technology Engineer to help them work on the upcoming Metroid Prime installment.

They even posted separate job hiring ads on Nintendo's Career web page, saying they are looking for additional personnel such as artists, designers, and scripters.

First announced in June of 2017 during the Electronic Entertainment Expo, according to ComingSoon.netMetroid Prime 4 was first scrapped by Nintendo after saying that the game did not reach its standards under Bandai Namco Games, its first developer.

Retro Games took over the development in 2019 with Tanabe Kensuke, who had experience in producing several Metroid Prime games, still oversees the project.

There are also reports that Nintendo is planning to announce the remake of the first Metroid Prime for the Nintendo Switch in late 2022, just in time for the game's 20th anniversary.
