Decidedly old-school first-person shooter Rise of the Triad has just released its v1.4 update, which includes a lot of fan-requested features and game tweaks. The biggest thing of all, however, is the DOOMSTICK. The semi-automatic shotgun ("from Hell!") is so ludicrously overpowered that it must be spelled out all in CAPS. They have also released a trailer that shows you just how powerful it really is.
The DOOMSTICK looks like tons of gory fun, as it lets you blast enemies to giblets and send their eyeballs flying around the map, possibly even landing on the screen. Along with the new weapon there's six new maps available, bringing the game's total to 21. There are three new achievements as well, and they took out some of the older achievements because "they weren't good ones". If the above image and name of the shotgun didn't tip you off that this is a complete Army of Darkness reference, two of the new achievements are called "Shop Smart, Shop S Mart" and "This is My Doomstick!" Not exactly subtle, but great for fans of the classic film.
You can find a full list of patch notes here. There have been a ton of little changes that will improve gameplay and your experience. and there's even new and optimized blood and gun effects.
