"PUBG Mobile" will be one of the eight games selected to be featured in the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. This will be the first time the player-versus-player shooter game will be featured in the Asian Games. According to a new set of rules by the Asian Esports Federation (AESF), teams will only compete in shooting and racing practice to decide the winners.

AESF Announced the Official Rules of 'PUBG Mobile' in the Asian Games

The AESF is the official body recognized by the Olympic Council of Asia that will organize the Esports events in the 2022 Asian Games. The AESF also acts as the "technical delegate" for the new discipline in the Asian Games. This means that the organization will also be responsible for the qualifiers, as well as the management and operations of all esports competitions at the Asiad.

The list of event games that will be played in the Asiad was announced on Sep 8, 2021. "We hope that this announcement allows all participating teams ample time to prepare and equip themselves ahead of the qualifying stages," said Husain Al-Musallam, the director-general of the OCA.

"I believe we have ticked all the right boxes ensuring a high level of competition which promises great viewing for enthusiasts and casuals alike," he adds.

AESF launched the Road to Asian Games website in November 2021 as they selected teams from various Asian countries to compete in China. According to the rules on the website, players of PUBG will not be shooting each other, but instead participate in shooting and racing practices.

PUBG Mobile Will Be Played Like A Triathlon in the Asian Games

There will be different levels in the Asian Games version of PUBG Mobile. At each level are various missions which require players to shoot targets followed by a vehicle race towards the finish line. The rankings will be based on which team finishes the race and completes all missions first.

"The classic gameplay mixes modern sports events such as triathlons, giving rise to an esports event that corresponds with the sportsmanship-Cross-country Shooting Competition," the AESF said.

An article published in South Korea's Money had previously reported that shooting other players will not be allowed in the games that will be featured in Asiad 2022. This is due to concerns that it playing shooting one another would "harm the harmony" between countries.

Dot Esports has also published a statement from Tencent Games, the developer of "PUBG Mobile." According to Tencent: "In accordance with the sportsmanship and the Olympics vision, the 'PUBG Mobile' Asian Games version will integrate the iconic gameplay of 'PUBG Mobile' and real-sport game experience, which we hope will bring the most unique excitement for our audience."

Other games selected as medal events in the Esports category of the Asiad are "League of Legends," "Street Fighter V," "Hearthstone," "FIFA," "Dream of Three Kingdoms 2," "Dota 2," and an Asian Games version of "Arena of Valor."

Aside from esports, two demonstration sports have also been added to the Asian Games: "Robot Masters" and "VR Sports." They'll also be organized by the AESF and will be powered by Migu.

Esports made their first appearance at the Asian Games in 2018 in Indonesia, where they were played as a demonstration sport.
