Overwatch 2's Sojourn Gets A Detailed Look At Her Abilities, Backstory

Overwatch 2 New Hero Sojourn's Abilities, Backstory Showcased

Overwatch 2 has provided in-depth looks at the abilities and backstory of its new hero, Sojourn, ahead of the game's still unscheduled release.

The new hero, according to IGN, is the Activision Blizzard franchise's first in two years and will be coming in as a damage dealer. She is described as a hero specializing in dealing damage from mid-range, combined with immense mobility and heavy-hitting shots.

As such, this skillset makes Overwatch 2's Sojourn a good fit for players who tend to be great with marksman-like hitscan heroes like Widowmaker or Soldier: 76. Here's a full breakdown of her in-game abilities via Activision Blizzard:

  • Railgun: As Sojourn's main weapon, the railgun builds up extra power for every shot that hits. Once that power is built up, players can use the railgun's alternate fire mode to deal with high-damage shots if they have the aim to show for it.
  • Power slide: Sojourn can slide on the ground and use her momentum to lead into a high jump, allowing for immense traversal capabilities not seen outside other damage dealers such as Hanzo or Genji.
  • Disruptor Shot: The railgun can fire an area of effect (AoE) shot which slows down any enemies within it, while also dealing damage.
  • Overclock (Ultimate): Sojourn's Ultimate ability, called Overclock, basically supercharges her railgun by making it automatically store extra energy for power shots for a short time. It can also deal charged shots that pierce enemies, though it's not clear whether these shots will pierce cover.

Here's a video showing Overwatch 2's Sojourn in action:

As you can see there, Sojourn looks to be an excellent hero for damaged players who want to cover immense ground in short bounds, courtesy of her Power Slide ability. This could make her great for assaulting enemy squads both from high or low ground. The video also shows that her Power Slide can be done right or left in something like a strafing action.

One thing that stands out, however, is her ultimate ability Overclock. It seems to be that if fired at the right time, her overclocked railgun can do enough damage to take down at least three enemies at once. You can see it on the gameplay video there with how one shot took down Ashe, Ashe's B.O.B (already tough to take down on his own), and Wrecking Ball, a tank hero, all in one fell swoop.

The Backstory Of Overwatch 2's Sojourn

Here is a video detailing the backstory of Sojourn, aka former Overwatch commander Vivian Chase:

She worked in tandem with Jack Morrison (aka Soldier: 76) during the Omnic Crisis as part of the Canadian Special Forces, eventually joining Overwatch herself after Morrison encouraged her.

But after seemingly serving Overwatch for years, Sojourn looked to have retired from service on her own accord. It is neither revealed why she left the organization nor why she has a lot of cybernetic enhancements. But Activision Blizzard could reveal more about her closer to the actual release date of Overwatch 2.
