Paper Rex defeats G2 Esports 2-0 at the 2022 VALORANT Champions Tour Masters Reykjavík. The third and final team from the EMEA region was eliminated from the Iceland tour after failing to recover from the intense matches against Paper Rex. There are no teams from the region who made it to the top four at the tournaments.

To come off from the playoffs phase in Reykjavik is already a huge honor for both teams, as this would mean that they are now regarded as the best in their respective VALORANT regions. Paper Rex was previously defeated by South Korean team DRX in their match last Apr. 15, pushing the Singaporean team to the lower finals. They quickly recovered and secured their upper bracket after defeating North American team The Guard, according to a report by Dot Esports. G2 Esports just comes fresh from their defeat to Brazilian team LOUD last Apr. 17.

Paper Rex Turns the Tables Around on Split

G2 showed a strong performance in the first half of the Split map, per Dot Esports. It seemed that the EMEA team could easily beat Paper Rex and move to the lower finals. However, the APAC team managed to overcome a fall of 3-9. They won the game with an almost flawless half and finished the first map, 13-10. Jason "f0rsakeN" Susanto showed his impressive set of skills, with him using Jett and crushing G2 members. He completed the map with 1.66 KD after getting 25 kills and just 15 deaths.

Lightning-quick Victory for Paper Rex

The next map was Bind, which was chosen by G2. Even though it was their pick, they soon struggled and won only four rounds in the first half. Paper Rex, however, won eight. Since they have a four-round advantage on the map of their choice, G2 took the first two pistol rounds in the second half. This increases the round score to 8-6 in favor of Paper Rex, although that is just the closest round count for this map. Paper Rex picked up and closed the entire game with 13- securing their place in the top four in Iceland. G2, the last EMEA team in the season, gets the boot from the competition.

Paper Rex will now compete with ZETA DIVISION in the lower bracket on April 22. ZETA has previously defeated big-ticket players such as Fnatic, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and DRX. It looks like the Japanese team will be the toughest opponent that Paper Rex will ever face in VCT Masters.

G2 Esports: 'Championship Wasn't Meant To Be'

Of their defeat, the official Twitter account for G2 Esports tweeted," Lower Bracket World Championship wasn't meant to be. Thanks for the support #G2ARMY, next time we'll try the Upper Bracket buff."

Only one of them will take a step closer to winning the championship trophy. The team that wins in the match between ZETA and Paper Rex will fight against the loser of OpTic Gaming vs. LOUD.

There are 12 teams battling for the title of international champion of VALORANT, in addition to a slice of the total prize pool of 675 thousand dollars.
