The new Gotham Knights gameplay was revealed in a newly uploaded trailer, and it features Nightwing and Red Hood. According to GameRant, this mechanic will help players build out the four playable characters including Batgirl and Robin to their specifications.

Here is the new gameplay video if you'd like to take a closer look:

The demo starts by showcasing Gotham City in all its crime-riddled glory: thugs robbing ATMs, the dark, gritty atmosphere - the whole shebang. But the thing is, the Caped Crusader is no longer here to protect the city's citizens as he is now dead. Enter the young group which includes Nightwing and Red Hood, both of which have access to an array of suits and weapons that could be crafted according to your playstyle.

Crafting and upgrades can be done at the heroes' HQ, the Belfry. This serves as their own Batcave after Bruce Wayne's superhero lair was destroyed when he died. The workbench is where equipment can be upgraded and crafted, which can be done by collecting blueprints and resources from doing open-world activities like main missions and fighting crime.

Once crafted, every suit will have its own set of stats that separate them from the other. Here are some of the most important stats to note when getting a suit:

  • Rarity: Suits come in Uncommon, Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Heroic rarity levels indicating their quality.

  • Level: While not clear what this means, it might refer to the suit's overall strength just like in normal RPG mechanics.

  • Armor: Self-explanatory

  • Health: Self-explanatory

  • Momentum Generation: This looks to be tied to super-moves, which are likely Gotham Knights' version of Ultimate abilities you can pop when things get rough in a fight. Perhaps they work a little like Spider-Man PS4's suit power, which is tied to a bar that you fill up by executing dodges and successful hits.

  • Elemental resistance: Elemental attacks look to be part of the enemies' kit, where this suit ability becomes important.

  • Mod slots: You can further enhance your suits' capabilities with certain mod chips that you can find in the world.

More Details About Gotham Knights Gameplay

In the gameplay demo, developer Warner Bros Montreal put a lot of emphasis on the combat. At first look, it is quite reminiscent of the fast-paced, counter/combo style mechanics of the Batman Arkham games - a combat system so revered even to this day.

You already know about the Momentum meter which allows characters to execute extra-powerful attacks, either to finish enemies off or take away a massive chunk of their health. You perform these attacks by filling up a meter, which can be done by performing successful dodges in strikes - once again, like the suit power mechanic in Insomniac Games' Spider-Man.

The traversal mechanics also play a massive part in the game, as both Nightwing and Red Hood have their own way of navigating Gotham. The former uses a glider, while the latter makes use of so-called Mystical Leap to quickly move above Gotham's skyline, where he could drop onto enemies from above and finish them off.

It is safe to assume that Batgirl and Robin also have their own unique abilities like Nightwing's and Red Hood's.

Gotham Knights is scheduled to launch on October 25th for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
