DOTA 2 History Made: OG Wins 5th Major Title In Stockholm Grand Final

DOTA 2: OG Wins The Stockholm Grand Final Against TSM, 3-1

Long-time DOTA 2 establishment OG has won its fifth Major title after beating TSM at the Stockholm Grand Final, despite so many things that would've prevented them from doing so.

OG won the 2022 DOTA 2 Stockholm Major in relatively dominant fashion, 3-1 against TSM - a team they actually lost to during the early days of the playoffs, writes DotESports. This win serves as a punctuation mark for the team's roller coaster of a tournament, which was marred by travel issues plaguing team captain Mikhail "Misha" Agatov and coach Evgenii Makarov.

With Misha out of the lineup, OG had to call DOTA 2 legend Sebastien "Ceb" Debs out of retirement to fill up the vacant roster spot. Another icon in Johan "N0tail" Sundstein stepped in to coach the team as well in the absence of their original one.

Either way, the team ended up hoisting the coveted trophy as shown in this celebratory video posted on the team's official Twitter account:

But as previously said, OG had to go through so many hoops to get here. They were in high spirits after sweeping Tundra ESports 2-0 in the low bracket final. Aside from that, they also had to handle BOOM ESports, Fnatic, Thunder Awaken, and the Gaimin Gladiators within the same bracket. In the end, the team came out victorious with a total of 680 points, winning a grand prize of $200,000, reports SportsNaut.

Bulgarian pro Bozhidar "bzm" Bogdanov and Ukrainian Artem "Yuragi" Golubiev were the top performers for DOTA 2's OG, racking up K/D/A ratios of 10.0-1.3-11.3 and 8.8-2.0-10.0 respectively.

With the victory, OG not only won its fifth DOTA 2 Major plum, but also gave Ceb his first Major win in a long time - since 2011, to be specific. He is also now the first ever substitute to get such a massive win. This has now put OG in a three-way tie with Virtus.pro and Team Secret for the most DOTA 2 Major titles of all time.

What's Next For DOTA 2's OG?

Now that the 2022 DOTA 2 Stockholm Major is done, what's next for OG? Well, according to Win.gg, it's on to the next TI to try and see whether they really belong in the list of the top teams in the world.

That's because aside from all the distinctions mentioned earlier, OG's victory at the 2022 DOTA 2 Stockholm Major also guaranteed them at spot at this year's The International. The premiere tournament is scheduled to be held in Singapore. But perhaps their performance during the recently concluded tournament could hint at great chances during TI11.

As of this writing, OG is now considered among the favorites for the next TI. This is due to how they handled the pressure that TSM applied early in Game One of their grand final matchup. The team also showed incredible grit throughout the competition after starting at an uncharacteristic 7-5 run in the group stage, which includes a loss to TSM in the upper bracket's first round.

For now, everything remains to be seen.
