If you've been playing Elden Ring lately and have been getting a warning saying there's "inappropriate activity detected" in your game, then you're not alone.
According to GameRant, numerous players have been getting the same warning - even if they weren't even doing anything sketchy at all. Most of the time, the warning only pops up for players who download and install cheats or mods. But this has happened way more often than usual, with the game's subreddit being flooded by complaints addressing FromSoftware directly.
Some users were ven saying that aside from getting the warning, the hardware on their systems even stop working as intended. Redditor USURPER-Durand posted that they got the warning even if they've never cheated, which also caused their mic to not show up working in-game. Afterwards, they reported that they can no longer play online:
But as per FromSoftware, the warning popping up when it shouldn't was actually a tiny bug that came with the new Elden Ring patch. It's a shame that the bug was caused by that too, since the patch itself (version 1.05) has introduced some nice quality of life improvements. As reported by PCGamer, the patch gave the PC version of the game a Return To Desktop button in the menu, among other things. But that's a topic for another time.
Either way, though, it seems like the bug has actually been fixed. One user reported that while playing online, their game froze. When they closed it down and launched the game again, the login problems were gone. Basically, the game seems to have "fixed itself" when it got reloaded. Some users still report getting the problem, however.
FromSoftware's games are no stranger to bugs, just like any other game out there. If you recently experienced this b ug and it proved to be annoying, just keep your game updated (assuming you've turned off automatic updates) and reload if the problems are there.

Not The First Time This Problem Popped Up
Elden Ring's Easy Anticheat is what flags inappropriate activity in the game and disables online play for many. As such, the warning will actually pop up if you start doing something shady, though for it to appear when you're playing the right way can be a bit weird - and maybe infuriating. But this isn't even the first time that the very same bug hampered people from playing online.

Similar reports of the popup made headlines back in April, as reported by PCGamer. Many players were right to claim that this was the result of FromSoftware's Easy Anti-Cheat, but they were a little confused as to what exactly is EAC's prerequisite for any activity to be "inappropriate."
It used to be that the easiest way to stop this warning message from popping up is just disabling EAC. To do so, here's what you need to do (via PrimaGames):

Launch Steam, go to Elden Ring in your Library

Right-click, select Properties

Go to Local Files > Browse

In the game's installation folder, look for the .exe file called "start_protected_game"

Rename the file to an easy-to-remember name, like adding _orig to the end of it

Make a copy of the main executable elden_ring.exe

Rename it as start_protect_game.exe

Launch the game by clicking on it on Steam
Or maybe just don't cheat and install mods if you don't know how to do things right. Simple.
