PS Plus is a monthly subscription service offered by Sony to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 console players. This service is needed if you want to access online games. 

Sony's PlayStation Plus was initially designed for PS3 consoles.

However, this service was transferred to PS4 and PS5 since PlayStation 3 was discontinued together with PS Vita, as reported by Pocket-Lint

Aside from online games, PS Plus offers other benefits, such as discounts, game-saving cloud storage, early trial game access, etc.

PlayStation Plus Extra

  • Offers the core features, such as two monthly free games, exclusive discounts, cloud service, and other benefits included in the Essential tier. 
  • Has access to more than 400 PS5 and PS5 games, allowing you to play almost whatever you want. 
  • Costs $99 per year, $39.99 every quarter, and $14.99 every month. 

PlayStation Plus Premium 

  • PS Plus Premium offers all the features that Extra has. But, it also has access to PS3 games via cloud streaming.  
  • Has access to a game catalog of classic PlayStation, PSP, and PS2 titles. You can even download them via PS4 and PS5 consoles. 
  • The Premium version is considered the top tier of PlayStation Plus since it offers more than 700 games. 
  • Costs $119.99 per year, $49.99 per quarter, and $19.99 per month.  

Changing PlayStation Plus Subscriptions

There are some instances when PlayStation Plus members want to change their subscription service tier. They can either be out of budget or just no longer use their consoles. 

No matter what your reason is, it is important to know how to change your plan. Here are the steps you must follow: 

  1. Go to Settings and click the Account Management option. 
  2. Select Account Information and choose the PlayStation Subscriptions button. 
  3. Click the PlayStation Plus subscription and select Change Plan. Select a new membership plan and payment frequency.

Before you do this, you need to remember that the change of plan will take place on your next payment date. After that, Sony will automatically change your subscription tier.
