Alleged God Of War Ragnarok Update Delayed, Cory Barlog Pleads For Patience

No, There Won't Be Any 'Release Date Reveal' For God Of War Ragnarok: Cory Barlog

Earlier this month, it was reported that there's going to be some sort of an "update event" where the release date for God Of War Ragnarok will finally be shown. But that's not going to happen anymore.

This was more or less confirmed by Santa Monica Studios creative director Cory Barlog, who recently pleaded that gamers be more patient when it comes to updates about Ragnarok. As reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, Barlog seems to indicate that the rumored "event" set for June 30th will never happen, while tweeting a GIF of Baby Yoda in a rather humorous attempt to play it cute and get in the good graces of fans:

The aforementioned rumors of an update event for God Of War Ragnarok surfaced around a week from the time of this writing. A Twitter user who goes by the handle The Snitch posted a GIF of a smiling Kratos with the numbers 1 1 1 1 0 flashing on the screen. Fans were quick to realize this was binary, which translated means "30."

As such, many fans were hoping that on June 30th (aka today), Santa Monica will finally reveal an official God Of War Ragnarok release date. Though judging by Barlog's pleading tweet, this "reveal" will never happen at all. He even said it outright when a fan asked him whether a reveal will be conducted today, simply saying "no."

Many fans are once again assuming that Ragnarok is going to be delayed. To which Barlog once again replied it won't. As reported by ComicBook.com, this is more or less a DEFINITIVE answer that the game will NOT be delayed and is still on track for a November 2022 release. However, he still reiterated that there's nothing new to share about the game, leaving fans once again clutching at straws.

TLDR: No, there won't be a June 30th "release date reveal." No, the game isn't delayed and will come out this year. That's pretty much it.

Games To Play While You Wait For God Of War Ragnarok

So since Ragnarok isn't going to come out for the next few months, that means you have plenty of time to check out some other games while you wait. Here are a few recommendations.

  • God Of War (2018): Well, what do you know? The most obvious game on this list is the first one! 2018's God Of War was a critically acclaimed game when it first came out for the PS4, and it still is today now that it has been ported to PC. The game is also 20% off on Steam right now as part of the 2022 Summer Sale, you better go get your hands on it if you haven't played it yet.

  • Assassin's Creed Valhalla: If you're completely fine with Assassin's Creed's foray into RPG mechanics and aren't an AC purist, then Valhalla can be a great game. Much of Valhalla's game world is rooted in real history, though its mythological "dream" sections are a perfect companion to God Of War's romp through Norse mythology, writes Den Of Geek.

  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: This game is already around 7 years old, but it's still a pretty darn excellent one. Just like God Of War, this game is all about fleshed-out characters with interesting stories, fighting big, powerful monsters, and its gruff-voiced protagonist in Geralt Of Rivia. The game's combat is involving and detailed according to TechRadar, allowing you to craft a playstyle that's completely your own. Couple that with the game's gorgeous world and deep lore, and you'll be hooked from start to finish.
