LOOK: Elden Ring Is Hiding A Sneaky Doctor Who Easter Egg

Elden Ring Player Finds The 'Weeping Angels' In Game

As an open-world game where you could go exploring anywhere you like, Elden Ring is chock full of secrets and easter eggs for players. But this one player may have discovered a sneaky reference to Doctor Who that not a lot of other folks might have found.

Redditor DockingCobra recently posted on the game's subreddit of a bunch of white statues in a dark room, which was located in the Shaded Castle. According to GameRant, the aforementioned statues have been mostly covered by sheets, but the player eventually found a message from another person warning, "be wary of angel." A few of the statues seem to be positioned in places where they could attack DockingCobra's Tarnished, and if it wasn't obvious enough, this is a clear reference to the Weeping Angels in Doctor Who.

Here's the original post on the Elden Ring subreddit, which has earned over 1,100 upvotes at the time of this writing:

Going to the comments on the Reddit post, one can tell that these people are also Doctor Who fans. One commenter said "Don't. Blink!" in reference to the Angels, which move closer whenever someone wasn't looking. These statues were among the most terrifying (if not the most) in the entire series, though the Elden Ring easter egg pertaining to them seems like it's not what it seems.

One commenter on the post says they feel like this is a "missed opportunity" for FromSoftware, as it appears like the statues don't actually move when you weren't looking. They also mentioned that these statues could have been used as unique enemies in the Shaded Castle, which had none of those enemies at all.

Either way, this reference definitely adds to the whole creepy vibe of this open-world FromSoftware game as a whole. Elden Ring, just like any other Soulsborne game before it, has been lauded for its dark, gritty atmosphere. And this subtle Doctor Who reference just adds to that in a lot of ways, further immersing players in the mystery of The Lands Between.

Elden Ring is out now for last-gen and current-gen consoles, as well as PC.

Other Fun Elden Ring Easter Eggs

The Weeping Angels are far from the only Elden Ring easter eggs you can find. There's a lot more to find in this game if you look hard enough, and here are a few of them that you can try to find for yourself:

  • Patches: Widely considered as the friendliest NPC in FromSoft games, Patches has appeared in almost all Soulsbornes. He makes his return in Elden Ring and you can find him early on. The Gamer writes that he's located in Murkwater Cave, which is close to the center of the main river in Limgrave. He actually tries to fight you, but you can offer him mercy if his health drops halfway. By sparing him, he turns into a merchant shop where you can buy and sell stuff.

  • The Iron Throne: Since Elden Ring is co-written by Game Of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin, this is perhaps the biggest reference to his wildly popular series of novels. It's a sword called the Grafted Blade Greatsword that literally looks like GoT's Iron Throne. But as ScreenRant notes, you need A LOT of points invested in strength if you want to wield it. Otherwise, you're just going to look like a fool.

  • Frozen: As a FromSoftware game, Elden Ring is the absolute last place you'd expect a reference to a child-friendly Disney IP. But here it is. If you get Blaidd's armor, you'll find a line that goes: "The pelt serves as a cape, to protect from the cold / Blaidd was the blade of Rannim but the cold never bothered him anyway." Blaidd is Elsa confirmed.
