How To Save Ciri In Witcher 3 (AKA How To Get The Good Ending)

Here's How To Save Ciri In Witcher 3 And Get The BEST Ending

The Witcher 3 might already be a roughly seven-year-old game at this point, but it's still one of the best to ever be released - ever. As such, it's not hard to imagine that many people are still playing this absolute masterpiece of a game.

It doesn't matter what your reasons are for playing through this game. Whether you're only picking it up for the first time, there's a renewed interest after Netflix's The Witcher series became popular, or the fact that CDPR is bringing a next-gen version of the game on PS5 and XSX - it doesn't matter. If you want to get the good ending, THIS is the guide you're looking for.

Before we go on, BEWARE OF SPOILERS. If you really want to make sure you go into the second half of the story blind, TURN BACK NOW. Either way, read on and see what things you need to do to ensure that Ciri survives.

Also, there's another ending where Ciri likewise survives, but it's more of a bittersweet one rather than a "good" one. We're NOT going to talk about this ending, as it deserves an article all on its own.

Five Major Choices

There are a total of five major decisions you need to make that will get you the "good" ending in the epilogue quest Something Ends, Something Begins. Make the right choice for three of these five decisions, she survives. Make the wrong choice three out of five times, she dies, writes The Gamer.

The first two decisions you need to make are right after the Battle Of Kaer Morhen, where Geralt and his allies first ought to protect Ciri from the Wild Hunt. There will be a cutscene where Ciri emerges from the castle with Avallach clearly frustrated. When she asks Geralt how he's able to refocus after a tough fight, pick the answer that reads: "I know what might lift your spirits."

You will then be in a cute snowball fight with her, and you'll see that instead of staying frustrated, Ciri goes off to continue her magic training with Avallach with a renewed sense of purpose.

The second one is when she wakes you up and asks you to go with her to the Witches' summit in Velen's Bald Mountain, where a general of the Wild Hunt will be. You have two initial choices to make: one, insist that she go see her father, Emperor Emhyr, first. Two, agree to her request outright and never visit the Emperor at all.

If you convince her to visit Emhyr, the next critical choice to make is this: DO NOT ACCEPT EMHYR'S REWARD FOR FINDING HER. Because if you do, you make her feel as if Geralt did it not because he loved her, but because it's for the money. Witchers do a lot of things (including way worse stuff) for money, but Geralt is not like other witchers. Wanna know how to save Ciri in Witcher 3? Don't be a freaking gold digger.

If you choose the option that reads "Velen, then" instead of visiting the Emperor, that's one check off the list in terms of saving her life.

Back To Novigrad

After killing the Wild Hunt general Imlerith in Velen, Geralt and Ciri will return to Novigrad where all of their allies - including the Lodge of Sorceresses - will be. You will trigger the quest Final Preparations where you'd do a few more errands for allies to make the final fight against the Wild Hunt easier.

Complete the quest and you'll be met by Ciri who's once again clearly distraught, because the Lodge Of Sorceresses want to talk to her. This is where the next critical decision is: ENCOURAGE HER TO SPEAK TO THE LODGE ON HER OWN, writes VG247.

In Skellige

When the whole group finally goes to Skellige, Ciri asks that you accompany her to explore a secret lab owned by Avallach, triggering the quest The Child Of The Elder Blood. She will find a few things in there that will piss her off, with her saying she'd basically want to destroy all of it.

The next critical decision to make is LET HER VENT HER ANGER. Pick the choice that says "Go for it" when she loses her temper, and Geralt and Yennefer will join her in thrashing Avallach's place.

Next up is she'll want to visit the grave of Skjall, the young man who helped her escape the Wild Hunt. Choose the answer that says "Yeah, I'll go with you" and you'll accompany her to rebury Skjall's body in a more dignified grave.

And that's it! Make these decisions in-game and you can be SURE that Ciri will survive at the end, and become a Witcher.

A Few Actual In-Game Hints

If for some reason you're able to finish the Hearts Of Stone DLC before you even finish the main game, there's actually a character there that will tell you EXACTLY how to save Ciri in Witcher 3.

That character is the mysterious and terrifyingly powerful Gaunter O'Dimm (basically the Witcher universe's version of the Devil). At the end of the DLC, let O'Dimm take Olgierd's soul, and he will give you a slew of rewards for your work. Choose the option that says "Wanna know where Ciri is," and O'Dimm will tell you not where she is, but instead what you need to do to ensure she doesn't die.
