Tekken 8 Potentially Teased At EVO 2022

It Looks Like Tekken 8 Is Finally Underway

Tekken 8 (or at least that's what we'll call it until an official name is revealed) has been teased by Bandai Namco at EVO 2022, right after the conclusion of the Tekken 7 Grand Finals.

The tease was revealed by way of a trailer featuring classic PS1-style visuals. It first shows Kazuya throwing his father Heihachi off a cliff. Then he looks at the camera, where all his retro glory was replaced with a new-gen-looking character model - to the delight of the fans in attendance. As reported by IGN, however, neither Bandai Namco or franchise director Katsuhiro Harada elaborate on the teaser.

Here it is:

Despite how good the trailer looks, though the original IGN report says that the teaser actually used footage from the original Tekken - which could point to either a remake or a reboot. The franchise was last seen with Tekken 7, which was released way back in 2015 (first for arcades) and 2017 for consoles and PC, which performed excellently in reviews. GameSpot, for instance, gave it an 8 out of 10. They praised the game for its deep fighting mechanics, which while not properly explained, rounded out the entire experience.

It's also worth considering that Tekken 8 was among the games included in the infamous NVIDIA GeForce Now leak, reports PC Gamer. That game notoriously outed the upcoming PC ports of several (now former) PlayStation exclusives, including Uncharted: Legacy Of Thieves Collection and the 2018 God Of War. Also, take note that since Bandai Namco has neither confirmed nor denied that the teaser is, indeed, Tekken 8, you should take this information with a grain of salt.

Either way, there is a new Tekken project in development. That, for one, is now confirmed - no more rumors. The only speculation now is what it will bring to the table, and how good it could be considering the massive success of Tekken 7. Safe to say, expectations are high at this point.
