PS5/PC Exclusive Forspoken Is Getting Roasted For The Dialog In Its Latest Ad

Forspoken's Latest Trailer Is Being Memed To High Heaven

The upcoming PS5 and PC exclusive Forspoken from Square Enix just posted a new short trailer on Twitter. And let's just say, people aren't exactly impressed.

Push Square reports that the ad, which features protagonist Frey taking stock of what's happening to her in-game, is basically being roasted for its dialog style. One can say that the trailer evokes something out of a Marvel superhero movie or series where a teenager is suddenly given powers out of nowhere, and she doesn't know jack about using them (basically Ms Marvel, but we digress).

Here's the Twitter trailer for the upcoming PS5 and PC exclusive, so you can be the judge whether it is actually bad or not:

Twitter Error

The trailer itself has already had 2.3 million views at the time of this writing. So one can't really say that it wasn't successful in terms of reaching as many people online as possible. However, Square Enix was probably hoping that the trailer would reach these folks in a more "positive" way - and not because many people are making fun of it instead.

Twitter was then set ablaze by the Forspoken trailer, with many folks making their own versions of the trailer using other games, as shared by Kotaku. One user did a Bloodborne version:

GameRanx's Jake Baldino did his own version featuring the original Metal Gear Solid for the PS1:

And here's the version of popular voice actor and YouTuber Sungwon Cho, aka ProZD, who did a Mario-inspired version:

Either way, the new trailer for Forspoken still managed to reach as many people as it could - just not in the way Square Enix had hoped. The game launches on PS5 and PC as a timed exclusive on January 24th, 2023, with a projected Xbox Series X and S release at around 2025 (via SVG).

Why This Kind Of Dialog Might Not Mean Forspoken Is Bad

Sure, the hilarious dialog in the newly released trailer is ripe with memeable qualities. But this doesn't indicate that Forspoken's story will be bad at all, judging by the talent that worked on its overall narrative. Uncharted's Amy Hennig and Rogue One's Gary Whitta headline the story development for the PS5 and PC exclusive - two folks that absolutely know what they're doing.

Now, as for the dialog, it actually makes sense considering the game's protagonist Frey - a young woman from New York City who's just about to turn 21 (via GamesRadar). She is reportedly transported into the magical land of Athia all of a sudden, so her confusion about all the magical stuff happening all at once is very, very grounded.

Pray tell how you'd feel when one moment, you're browsing TikTok on your phone - and all of a sudden you're transported into a magical realm you know nothing about? That's her situation right there, so while one could consider the dialog in the trailer cringy, it's not out of the realm of possibility.
