How to Unlock All Spells in Hogwarts Legacy

Spells in Hogwarts Legacy are important because they not only help you deal with enemies but they are also required to complete the Wizard's Field Guide, as well as certain missions and side quests.

How to Unlock

Now that you know how important spells are, how do you actually unlock them? Well, most of the spells can be yours just by finishing the campaign. Some of them are even accessible very early on, including Revelio, Lumos, Protego, and Stupefy.

  • Incendio: Learned by completing Professor Hecat's "Assignment 1"
  • Expelliarmus: Learned by completing Professor Hecat's "Assignment 2'
  • Diffindo: Learned by completing Professor Sharp's "Assignment 2"
  • Bombarda: Learned by completing Professor Howin's Assignment
  • Confringo: Taught by Sebastian Sallow during the "In the Shadow of the Undercroft" main quest

Essential Spells

  • Protego: Complete "Path to Hogwarts" tutorial
  • Stupefy: Complete "Path to Hogwarts" tutorial
  • Revelio: Complete "Path to Hogwarts" tutorial
  • Basic Cast: Learned by using the spell on a magical barrier during "Path to Hogwarts" tutorial
  • Ancient Magic: Learned after completing "Welcome to Hogsmeade" quest
  • Ancient Magic Throw: Learned during the "Welcome to Hogsmeade" quest
  • Alohomora: Has three levels. First level is taught by Gladwin Moon during "The Caretaker's Lunar Lament" main quest. The second and third levels can be unlocked by completing "The Man Behind the Moons" side quest
  • Petrificus Totalus: Unlocked by completing "Secrets of the Restricted Section" main quest

Utility Spells

  • Lumos: Complete "Path to Hogwarts" tutorial
  • Reparo: Unlocked by completing Professor Ronen's Assignment
  • Wingardium Leviosa: Unlocked by completing Professor Garlick's "Assignment 1"
  • Disillusionment Charm: Taught by Sebastian Sallow in the "Secrets of the Restricted Section" main quest

Force Spells

  • Accio: Learned in the "Charms Class" main quest
  • Depulso: Unlocked by completing Professor Sharp's "Assignment 1"
  • Flipendo: Learned in Professor Garlick's "Assignment 2"
  • Descendo: Learned during Professor Onai's Assignment

Control Spells

  • Glacius: Learned in Madam Kogawa's "Assignment 1"
  • Levioso: Unlocked by completing "Defense Against the Dark Arts Class" main quest
  • Transformation: Learned during Professor Weasley's Assignment
  • Arresto Momentum: Learned in Madam Kogawa's "Assignment 2"

Transfiguration Spells

  • Evanesco: Taught by Professor Weasley during "The Room of Requirement" main quest
  • Conjuring Spell: Taught by Professor Weasley during "The Room of Requirement" main quest
  • Altering Spell: Learned by completing the "Interior Decorating" side quest

Unlocking Curses

Unforgivable Curses are very powerful spells that can help you turn the tide of battle. At the time of writing, there are a few curses that you can unlock in the game. They are:

  • Adava Kedavra: Taught by Sebastian Sallow during the relationship part of "In the Shadow of the Relic" side quest
  • Imperio: Taught by Sebastian Sallow During the "In the Shadow of Time" side quest
  • Crucio: Taught by Sebastian Sallow during "In the Shadow of the Study" side quest
