FatalZone's First Update Adds Tons of New Content for More 'Dynamic' Gameplay

Midhard Games just released the first major update for FatalZone. Update 1 adds a ton of new stuff, including a notification log, interactive point mechanics, and the new radar system, among many others.

FatalZone is a roguelike game similar to Vampire Survivors where players take control of mercenaries as they fight hordes of zombies. What's great about this game is that players can choose various upgrades each time they level.

To up the ante, mercenaries who die in battle stay dead permanently, bringing weapons and upgrades with them. Players have to decide whether they need to extract or continue on, though things get pretty dangerous the longer the game progresses.

First Update

FatalZone is shaping up to be one of the best roguelike games this year. Developer Midhard Games wants to capitalize on that by delivering a new content patch that players can download.

The game's first-ever major update brought a ton of new features for more dynamic gameplay. One of the biggest additions is a notification log that tells players important information about the game, such as resource pickups, character perks activation, and resource containers whenever they pop up on the map.

Speaking of which, resource containers provide players with a lot more resources than the usual crates. The company has given these containers a unique look to make them stand out.

To make things in FatalZone more interesting, the company also added new interactive points. These are zones that, when interacted with, allow players to enter a new area filled with more enemies that they need to eliminate. According to Midhard Games, the introduction of these new interactive points encourages players to branch out and explore what the game has to offer.

The company introduced the new radar navigation system as well. Instead of an arrow pointing in different directions, players can now see icons that lead them toward nearby crates. These icons get bigger or smaller depending on the players' current location. If they are near the crate, the icon gets significantly bigger. Conversely, if they are too far away, the icon is relatively small to indicate that they need to get closer.

Players who do not want to see the radar at all times can toggle the said feature on or off using the default "E" hotkey.

Changelog

ADDED

  • Added unique containers that can hold skills. Note that you can't evolve a skill with such containers, and that they will stop spawning once all of your skills reach max level.

  • Leveling up the Infirmary building now provides new bonuses:

    • At level 2, a Healing Dome will spawn at the EVAC Zone and heal 50 HP every 0.5 seconds on player contact (the dome disappears alongside the evacuation point);

    • At level 3, the dome will also stun and repel enemies. Its stun duration is 5 seconds;

    • At level 4, a chest with a parachute icon will appear at the EVAC Zone. Note that it will also disappear alongside it!

CLASS CHANGES

  • The "Survivor" class now has the unique "Ghost Chance" perk: upon receiving lethal damage, if the Merc has no resurrection charges, they will become invulnerable for 20 seconds. Pick up a first-aid kit or heal under the EVAC Zone Dome during this time to survive. Otherwise, the character will die, and the raid will fail. Once the perk is activated, an icon and a scale showing the time remaining will appear above the character.

  • The "Scavenger" class now has the unique "Uncontrolled Magnetism" perk: when activated, all experience spheres, amplifiers, and resources on the location will be instantly collected. The perk triggers once every few seconds and doesn't affect chests, interactive and evacuation points, or resource and skill containers.

  • The Veteran class now has the new unique "Fire Shower" perk: once every few seconds, the character receives a Hellfire drone with a unique appearance. Picking up two drones will prolong the skill's duration.

MISC CHANGES

  • Evacuation:

    • Changed the effective zone from a rhombus to an ellipse so that it matches the visual representation.

  • Level Ups:

    • The "Refresh List" button can now be selected with the keyboard by pressing the S or the downward arrow keys.
