It seems that Bethesda Game Studios has more to worry about Starfield before the year ends because the game has dropped to "Mostly Negative" reviews on Steam recently. What could be the cause of this, especially since the embattled title had mixed reviews just a few weeks ago?
Dropped Down in Rating
For those who are unaware, Starfield was released in September of this year. Despite all the hype surrounding this space exploration game, it launched to somewhat mixed reactions from fans, with some citing that it just lacked content. Well, it seems that this issue is still true to this day, even more so several months later.
The general sentiment of the community is that the game is just too boring. User @Ceilium provided some context as to why they do not recommend Starfield to anyone who is looking for something to play during the Holiday break.
They said that Starfield is just "too boring and uninspired." The companions do not even have something engaging to say. They just agree with players, leaving much to be desired from a dialogue standpoint.
Ceilium also said that the quests are largely boring, save for a few. They compared the quests that players can take in Starfield to that of another Bethesda Game Studios title, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
For some context, players can do some thieving in Starfield, particularly when they decide to join one of the factions in the game called Ryujin Industries. That said, Ceilium noted that the quests do not even provide a challenging experience.
In Skyrim, the Thieves Guild will put players to the test, making sure that they know the art of thievery before they proceed to the more dangerous tasks. In Starfield, however, the quests that Ryujin Industries gives are so "childishly easy" that they do not teach players anything worthwhile.
Another user left a scathing review. They said that Starfield is poorly optimized. Those who are not running the latest Solid-State Drives (SSD) will suffer from dismal performance.
They added that the planets that are on full display are like static images because players cannot go to them. So much for a space exploration title, huh?

Sliver of Hope
While there are indeed legitimate reasons why players are upset about Starfield, Bethesda Game Studios deserves some credit. Since the game launched, the company released a bunch of updates that introduced new features and a plethora of bug fixes.
For one, players back then would have to rely on mods just to enable FSR2 or DLSS. But, these technologies are now available as bonafide options that players can turn on or off in the settings.
Stuttering issues, in large part, have been addressed. Although players may need to upgrade their hardware if they still suffer from poor in-game performance, those who are running mid-range systems might have a good time.
This is not to say that Bethesda should be off the hook. The company still needs to improve the game in more ways than one. However, those who believe in this title have something to look forward to because BGS has no signs of stopping anytime soon.
